What is Add Nearby?
Add Nearby allows Snapchat to use your location data to find other Snapchatters in your vicinity and lets you add them as friends. This can be fun and useful when you want to add friends on campus, at group gatherings, when out to dinner with people, etc.
The Add Nearby feature can be found on your Add Friends screen, and only works if you grant Snapchat permission to access your precise location.
By default the Add Nearby nearby feature is turned off, and you must turn it on to find Snapchatters near you as well as to show yourself as nearby to other Snapchatters.
Please Note: Only Snapchatters who've also turned their Add Nearby switch on are eligible to show up as being nearby to you, and to see you as being nearby to them!
How do I use Add Nearby?
To make sure you see nearby folks who you’re likely connected with (and not a clutter of strangers!), we’ll only show nearby Snapchatters who share mutual connections with you.
If you forget to turn Add Nearby off after leaving the Add Friends screen, don’t worry, we've got you covered. We will automatically turn it off after a while in case you don’t disable it yourself.
⚠️ Important: Remember to turn off Add Nearby if you’re going somewhere you don’t want others to know you may be at!
Please Note: Add Nearby is a neat way to make new friends, but in case you’re wondering, it won’t show your location to others on Snap Map (unless you’re already sharing your location with friends on the map).
