A friend is a bi-directional relationship, where someone has added you and you’ve added them back. This allows a friend to send you direct Snaps and messages. If you use your Public Profile, Snapchatters are still able to add you as a friend by adding you from your Public Profile, searching for you, etc. These friend requests will typically appear in the 'Added Me' section.
Snapchatters can follow you from Spotlight, Snap Map, Discover, or by tapping the 'Add' button on your Public Profile. Unlike friend requests sent from Search and Quick Add, you will not receive a notification for new followers from Spotlight, Snap Map, or Discover.
Pro Tip 💡 If you add a Public Profile, you’ll be adding that Public Profile owner as a friend, and you’ll become friends with them if they add you back.
Please Note: Your Public Profile does not change any existing contact settings or 'My Friends' or 'Custom' My Story privacy settings.
