If a Snapchat feature isn’t working the way you’re used to, here are a few tips.
- Update your Snapchat app to the latest version in the iOS App Store or Google Play Store.
- Restart your Snapchat app. Completely close the app and open it again.
- Restart your device. Turn the device off and on again.
- Check your Internet connection. Switch between mobile data and Wi-Fi. If that solves the issue, please contact your data or Internet service provider for more support.

Best Friends
Best Friends are the friends you send 1:1 Snaps and Chats to most frequently and most recently 👯 Best Friends can change over time, based on the way you use Snapchat. You'll see Best Friends in the Send To screen before sending a Snap!
Charms
Charms celebrate your friendships on an individual level! Charms are added based on your interactions and relationships with your friends.

Friend Emojis
Friend Emojis are assigned based on the way you and your friends use Snapchat, and can change regularly. Go here to learn how you can customize Friend Emojis!
Please Note: If your Friend Emojis changed recently, including BFF and Super BFF, we won't be able to add, restore, or replace them.
Friends List
You can search for friends in the Friends List accessed through My Friends, inside My Profile 🔍

My Profile features your Snapchat info, like your Bitmoji, location on the Map, friend info, and more! You can edit your Profile by tapping on your Bitmoji in the top left of the Camera screen and tapping ⚙️ in the top right to open your Settings.

- Open Snapchat, and tap the Profile icon at the top to go to your Profile screen ↖️
- Select ‘Create My Avatar’

How do I edit my Bitmoji avatar?
To edit a Bitmoji you already have on Snapchat…
- Tap the Profile icon at the top to go to your Profile screen ↖️
- Swipe down or tap on your avatar to open your customization menu
- Tap ‘Edit Avatar’ to edit its appearance, ‘Change Outfit’ to get new threads, ‘Change Selfie’ or ‘Pose and Background’ to update the way your Bitmoji looks on your Profile!
How do I link my Bitmoji to Snapchat?
If you already have a Bitmoji and want to link it to Snapchat…
- Download the latest versions of Snapchat and Bitmoji on your phone
- Open the Bitmoji app
- Tap on the gear icon in the top-right corner
- Scroll down to find ‘Link to Snapchat’
- Tap ‘Continue’ to link your Bitmoji account to Snapchat!
- If you have a Bitmoji linked to your account already, you will not be able to link a different Bitmoji account until you unlink your accounts.
Please Note: In order to link Bitmoji with Snapchat, you’ll need to have at least iOS 12 or Android 5.0.
How do I remove my Bitmoji from Snapchat?
To remove your Bitmoji from your Snapchat account…
- Tap the Profile icon at the top to go to your Profile screen ↖️
- Tap on the gear icon in the top-right corner
- Scroll down and tap ‘Bitmoji’
- Tap ‘Remove My Bitmoji’
Please Note: If you created a Bitmoji through Snapchat, unlinking will permanently delete your Bitmoji avatar and all fashion items saved in your Closet.

Communities
Communities are groups that Snapchatters can join to make friends and share to the Community Story. To join a Community, you must have an institution-issued email that can be used to verify your identity.
It can take up to 48 hours to receive a verification email when you join a Community. Remember to check your spam folder if you don’t see it!

Public Profiles

What is a Public Profile?
Public Profiles enable Snapchatters ages 18 and older to become more discoverable and grow an audience on Snapchat. Public Profiles grant access to tools like showcasing Stories, Lenses, and Follower Count to enable you to connect and grow with the wider Snapchat community.
How can I tell if I have a Public Profile?
Tap your Bitmoji or Story icon at the top left of your screen to view your profile. If you see the option to tap ‘My Public Profile,’ you have a Public Profile.
Is my Public Profile the same as a Business Profile?
Business Profiles are used by brands of all sizes to feature their unique Snapchat assets and content. Business Profiles can only be created or managed by you in Ads Manager. Business Profiles are not created for you by Snapchat.
My Public Profile was deleted
If you set your birthday to be 18 or older in your Settings, then change your birthday so that your age is younger than 18, your Public Profile will be deleted. Please note that Snapchat Support cannot restore deleted Public Profiles.
Only Snapchatters aged 18 or older are eligible for a Public Profile.
How do I get a ‘+ Add’ button or other Creator features?
To get a ‘+ Add’ button, you need to have a Creator Account. To get a Creator Account, you must have a Public Profile and have grown an audience by being an active poster on your Stories and Spotlight.
How do I get verified as a Snap Star?
We consider many factors to determine an account’s eligibility for a Snap Star. In addition to abiding by Snap's Terms of Service and Community Guidelines, these factors include the following:
- Account engagement
- Stories for a public audience
- Authenticity
- Notability and Cultural Relevance
- Content Quality

How do I change my birthday?
To make an allowed change to your birthday, follow the steps below:
- Tap the ⚙️ button in the Profile screen to open Settings
- Scroll down to ‘My Account’ and tap ‘Birthday’
- Select your correct birthday from the calendar wheel
- Tap ‘Continue’ to confirm the change
Why can’t I change my birthday?
If you’re under 18 according to your current birthday in Snapchat, you can’t change your birthday.
You can only change your birthday a limited number of times. If you changed your birthday before and now you see the ‘Hey, Time Traveler’ error message, you may have changed it too many times by now.
How do I change my username?
To change your username…
- Tap ⚙️ in My Profile to open Settings
- Tap ‘Username’ under the ‘My Account’ section
- Tap ‘Change Username’
- Enter your new username, then tap ‘Next’
- Enter your password to confirm your username change, then tap ‘Confirm’
How do I change my Display Name?
You can change your Display Name whenever you like!
- Tap ⚙️ in My Profile to open Settings
- Tap ‘Name’ under the “My Account” section
- Enter your Display Name and tap ‘Save’
How do I enable Dark Mode?
- Tap ⚙️ in My Profile to open Settings
- Tap ‘App Appearance’ under ‘My Account’
- Select the ‘Always Dark’ option
- To turn off Dark Mode, select the ‘Always Light’ option

Subscribing to Snapchat+
To subscribe to Snapchat+:
- Go to your Profile
- Tap on the Snapchat+ banner card at the top
- Choose a subscription 👆
- When you’ve successfully subscribed, you may need to restart the Snapchat app for the Snapchat+ feature options to appear
Please Note: To check if Snapchat+ is available to you, make sure that you have updated to the latest version of Snapchat and that you have dismissed any other banner cards from your Profile.

Managing my Snapchat+ subscription
If you would like to request a refund, please visit the App Store for iOS or the Google Play Store for Android. Refunds must be requested through the App Store or Google Play Store, and are not processed by Snapchat.
Please Note: If you cancel your Snapchat+ subscription, you will still have access to Snapchat+ features until the end of your free trial or billing period.

Gifting Snapchat+
Snapchat+ Gift Card
If you have a gift card for Snapchat+ that was purchased through a third party (like Amazon or Target), here’s how you can redeem it:
- Go to www.snapchat.com/plus and click 'Redeem Gift Card'
- Sign in to your Snapchat account, or sign up if you’re new to Snapchat
- Choose a subscription 👆
- Enter the gift card info and click 'Redeem'

Snapchat+ Gifts purchased in-app
You can gift Snapchat+ for 3 months, 6 months or 12 months of Snapchat+ to friends who don’t already have a subscription.
To gift Snapchat+...
- Go to your Profile and tap your Snapchat+ membership card
- Tap 'Gift Snapchat+'
- Select a ‘Send a Gift+
- Choose gift length and tap the 'Gift Snapchat+' button to begin the purchasing process
To redeem a Snapchat+ gift…
- Go to your Profile and tap 'Settings' in the upper right hand corner
- Tap 'Snapchat+'
- Tap 'Snapchat+ Gifts'
- Tap 'Gifts Received'
- Tap the 'Redeem' button to begin the process
Please Note:
- Gifts are a one-time purchase and are not a recurring subscription. If you already have a subscription to Snapchat+ and then receive a gift subscription, your gift subscription will begin after your original subscription ends, so you will need to cancel your current subscription in order to redeem your Snapchat+ gift.

Snap Map

Bitmoji
Snapchatters who haven’t made a Bitmoji will show up on the Snap Map with a blank Bitmoji avatar.
Please Note: Enabling ‘Ghost Mode’ will hide your location from everyone else on the Snap Map. You’ll still be able to see yourself on the Map, but your Bitmoji will hold up a blue sign with a ghost on it 👻
Data Usage
Snap Map will use data when you aren’t on a Wi-Fi connection. Keep that in mind if your cell phone plan has limited data use!
Settings
In order for a Snapchatter to see your location on the Snap Map, you must both be mutual friends first ☝🏼 To edit your location settings, just tap the ⚙️ icon in the top of the Map screen!
You can also turn Ghost Mode on and off, or set a timer if you only want to be on the down-low for a little while.
Status
You can set your Status at locations on the Snap Map and choose a Bitmoji to show your activity ⛳️ 🎳 ⛱ This lasts four hours, or until you leave that location, or set a new Status.
Viewing content
With Snap Map, you can view Snaps of sporting events, celebrations, breaking news, and more from all across the world!
Please Note: Snaps you submit to Snap Map can still show up on the Map, no matter what location sharing setting you choose!

My subscriptions are not showing up
We’ve combined accounts that you follow with the main feed on the Stories page to help you find new creators and accounts that you may be interested in. You can still view all your subscriptions in one place by tapping the ‘Subscriptions’ or ‘Following’ button under your Friends’ Stories on the Stories tab.
I’m having trouble viewing a friend’s Story
Please make sure both you and your friend have added each other on Snapchat. Check that you have the latest version of the Snapchat app installed as well as a strong Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
