How do I use Passkeys on Snapchat?

A passkey is a digital credential tied to your user account that can be used to log in to your Snapchat account without having to remember a password.

Passkeys are a safer and more secure form of authentication than passwords. Passkeys take advantage of security features already allowed on your device, such as Face ID, Passcode, Touch Unlock, and PIN. Snapchat can't access this biometric data.

1. In My Account, tap the gear icon ⚙️ to open Settings
2. Scroll down to ‘My Account’ and find ‘Passkey’
3. Tap ‘Add Passkey’ and follow the instructions in the app

3. Tap the X next to the Passkey you want to remove or delete and follow the instructions in the app
4. After deleting the passkey from the app, also ensure you delete the passkey from your device:

• Apple
• Android

1. In My Account, tap the gear icon ⚙️ to open Settings
2. Scroll down to ‘My Account’ and find ‘Passkey’
3. Current Passkeys you have already created and enrolled will be listed

If your device has the passkey stored, the passkey pop-up will automatically appear once you’re on the login screen. If for whatever reason, the pop-up doesn’t show up, try exiting and reopening the app or logging in with an alternative method.

If you’re having trouble enrolling a passkey, try the steps below. 

Set Google as Your Passkey Service Provider 

1. Ensure your device is signed in to a Google account. 
2. Open your phone’s Settings and search for Passkeys (or go to Passwords, passkeys & autofill). 
3. Under All services, enable Google Password Manager / Google. 
4. Reopen Snapchat and try Add Passkey again. 

Clear Cache and Update Google Play Services 

1. Open your phone’s Settings, search for Apps, and select Google Play services. 
2. Tap Storage, then select Clear cache. 
3. Return to the Google Play services app info screen. 
4. Tap App details in store, then select Update. 
5. Reopen Snapchat and try Add Passkey again. 

Set Up a Device Lock Screen 

1. Open your phone’s Settings and search for Screen Lock. 
2. Set up a lock screen using a PIN, fingerprint, password, or pattern. 
3. Reopen Snapchat and try Add Passkey again.
