Two-factor authentication (2FA) adds a step to the login process. This helps protect the security of your Snapchat account. When you have two-factor authentication turned on and you log in to Snapchat you’ll always be asked to enter a Login Code.
You can use a trusted app like Google Authenticator (iOS/Android) or Duo (iOS/Android) to generate Login Codes. These apps generate single-use codes that only work for a short time.
⚠️ Important:
- 2FA enabled accounts require two-factor authentication to log in — including if you forget your password and need to reset it. This helps keep your account safe from compromised phone or email accounts.
- If you choose to enable 2FA, you must add both a mobile number and an email address to your account and keep them up to date. This ensures you can maintain access to your account, even if you forget your password.
- For even stronger security, we recommend using an authenticator app or passkey in addition to your recovery information.
To set up two-factor authentication using an authenticator app, follow the steps below.
- Tap the gear icon ⚙️ in Profile to open Settings
- Under "Shortcuts," tap 'My Account'
- Under "Manage My Account," tap 'Two-Factor Authentication'
- Tap 'Continue'
- Select 'Authentication App' as your verification method
- Tap 'Set Up Automatically' to open your authentication app on this device
- Follow the prompts in your authentication app to finish setup
If you don’t have an authentication app yet, tap 'Find An App' to see apps we recommend, install one on this device, then return and tap 'Set Up Automatically'.
⚠️ Please Note: If you use an authenticator app to generate Login Codes for two-factor authentication, you may lose access to your account if you…
- Restore your phone to its original factory settings
- Lose or delete the app you used to enable two-factor authentication
- Lose your device and your Recovery Code
