If you see the ‘Verify Your Age’ button when you open the Snapchat app, you will need to verify your age to continue using Snapchat. Tap on ‘Verify Your Age’ and follow the instructions in the app.
Please note that you may see different age verification methods in the app depending on your jurisdiction and/or service availability. Age verification methods offered through our third-party service provider, k-ID, include:
- Use Photo ID: You can scan your government-issued photo identification and k-ID will validate your ID document and age. Your ID scan is only used to verify your age, and is deleted once the process is complete. Please note birth certificates are not supported.
- Use Facial Scan: You can take a selfie and k-ID will estimate an age range. Facial scan data is only processed locally and never leaves your device.
- Verify with Parent: You will be able to send a link to your parent to verify your age. If you select this option, k-ID will send a notification to your parent to verify their age and then attest to your birth date. Contact and other information provided for this method will only be used to verify your age.
- ConnectID: You can verify your age through a connection with your Australian bank account. Please note not all banks are supported.
Depending on which option you select, you may be asked to provide the following personal information as part of the age verification process with k-ID:
- a government-issued identification card (e.g. passport, drivers license, or any other state issued ID)
- a selfie of your face
- a connection with your existing account at a participating financial institution
