Snapchat accounts can be locked for a variety of reasons. We do this to keep the app fun and safe for everyone.
See below for more information about some messages you might see when you try to log in to the Snapchat app.

My account was locked for violating Snap’s Community Guidelines
If you see a message in the Snapchat app that your account has been locked for violating our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, you will not be able to unlock it. In some cases, we may have removed content that violated our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service and/or banned your device in addition to locking your account.
Can I submit an appeal to unlock my account?
If your account lock is eligible for an appeal, you’ll be able to access the appeals process from the Snapchat app. Open the app, try to log in, and tap ‘Appeal Decision’ on the pop-up notification.
If you don’t see a pop-up notification with the option to ‘Appeal Decision,’ then your account lock is not eligible to appeal.
For more information about the appeals process, please go here.
I already submitted an appeal, but I still have questions
If you have follow up questions about an appeal you already submitted, you can learn more about the appeals process here.
Please note that the review process may take up to 30 days. We’ll notify you via email or in the Snapchat app once a decision is reached.
My device was banned: SS18, SS06, SS07 errors
If you're seeing an SS18 or SS06 error code when trying to log in or create a new account, this means Snapchat has banned the device you're using due to abuse or repeated violations of our Community Guidelines. This is a safety measure we take to protect the Snapchat community when we identify suspicious activity.
If you're seeing an SS07 error code when trying to log in, this means your device has been banned from logging into Snapchat because too many accounts have been associated with the device.
If your device has been banned, you will not be able to create new accounts on a banned device. Please note that the appeals process in the Snapchat app is the only legitimate way to appeal an account lock decision, including if your device has been banned.

I’m a resident of the European Union and I want to dispute an appeals decision
If you are a resident in the European Union, your locked account appeal has not been successful, and you would like to dispute our decision, you can appeal to any out-of-court dispute settlement body that has been certified in accordance with Article 21.3 of the Digital Services Act. You may also raise any disputes in accordance with our Terms of Service.
My account was temporarily locked
If you see a message in the Snapchat app that your account has been temporarily locked, you can try to unlock your account by going here, logging in, and selecting “Unlock.” If this method doesn’t unlock your account, please wait 48 hours, then try logging in again. Please note that these methods may not work for some cases, such as when accounts have been permanently locked.
You can find more information about common reasons why Snapchat accounts get locked under the “Why was my account locked?” section below to help prevent having your account locked again in the future 👇
My account was compromised and locked just to be safe
If you see a message in the Snapchat app that your account looks like it was compromised and has been locked just to be safe, please contact Snapchat Support.

Why was my account locked?
Your account can be locked if…

- We identify suspicious activity, such as sending excessive friend requests to multiple Snapchatters in a short time
- We identify your account may have been compromised and lock it for your safety
- We identify your account was logged into from a banned device
- We identify a third-party app, tweak, or plugin being used to access Snapchat
To prevent future locks…
- Follow best practices for keeping your Snapchat account safe
- Verify your email or phone number for added account security
- Avoid behavior that goes against our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service, such as sending spam or using unauthorized third-party apps, plugins, or tweaks

Or, if you see a pop-up notification with the option to ‘Appeal Decision’ when you try to log in to the Snapchat app, you can submit an appeal in the app.
