A Snapchat username is your unique identifier on the platform. You can change your Snapchat username once a year. That means 12 months to the day since the date when you last changed your username.

- Tap the gear icon ⚙️ in your Profile to open Settings
- Under "Shortcuts," tap 'My Account'
- Under "Change My Info," tap 'Username'
- Tap 'Change Username'
- Enter your new username, then tap 'Next'
- Enter your password to confirm your username change, then tap 'Confirm'

What is a valid Snapchat username?
Here are some tips if you’re creating a new Snapchat account or changing your username:
- Usernames must be at least 3 characters, but cannot be longer than 15 characters
- Usernames can only contain Latin letters, numbers, and one of -, _, or . but no special characters
- Usernames must start with a letter
- Usernames must end in a letter or number
- Usernames cannot include or be a phone number
- Usernames must follow Community Guidelines
What is the difference between my username and my Display Name?
Your Display Name is the name that other Snapchatters see for you on Snapchat. It appears to your friends in Chat, on your Profile, and in other places throughout Snapchat. Unlike your username, your Display Name doesn't need to be unique.
Display Name requirements:
- Must be 30 characters or fewer (including spaces)
- Can include letters, numbers, emojis, and most special characters
- Cannot include a phone number
- Must follow our display name guidelines
Your username can only be changed once a year, but you can update your Display Name any time.
To create or change your Display Name…
- Tap ⚙️ in My Profile to open Settings
- Under "Shortcuts," tap 'My Account'
- Under "Change My Info," tap 'Name'
- Enter your Display Name, then tap 'Save'
You can find others on Snapchat by searching for their Display Name or their latest username.
