If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on, it’s a good idea to create a Recovery Code. A Recovery Code backs up your ability to log in to Snapchat so that you can still log in even if you lose your device, change your phone number, or restore your phone to its original factory settings.
Here’s how to create a Recovery Code:
- Tap your Profile icon and tap ⚙️ to go to Settings
- Tap ‘Two-Factor Authentication’
- Tap ‘Recovery Code’
- Tap ‘Generate Code’
- Enter your password to verify your identity
- Store your Recovery Code somewhere safe and accessible
Once you’ve created a Recovery Code, keep it in a safe place. Use an encrypted wallet like LastPass, or print the code and store it securely. Emailing it to yourself is not recommended, since the code (and access to your account) will be at risk if your email is compromised.
