Why is it important to have a Recovery Code for Snapchat?
When you have two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on and you log in to Snapchat for the first time from a new device, you’ll be asked to enter a Login Code. If you can’t access your Login Code via an authenticator app or SMS, you will not be able to log in to your account unless you have created a separate Recovery Code in advance.
A Recovery Code backs up your ability to log in to Snapchat so that you can still log in even if you lose your device, change your phone number, or restore your phone to its original factory settings.

Once you’ve created a Recovery Code, keep it in a safe place. Use an encrypted wallet like LastPass, or print the code and store it securely. Emailing it to yourself is not recommended, since the code (and access to your account) will be at risk if your email is compromised.
⚠️ Please Note: We do not offer support for lost Recovery Codes.

How do I use my Recovery Code to log in to Snapchat?
If you have two-factor authentication (2FA) turned on, but you lost access to the phone number or authenticator app that you used to set it up, you will need a Recovery Code to log back in to your Snapchat account. The Recovery Code needs to have been created in advance for this to work.
To log in to Snapchat using a Recovery Code...
- Open Snapchat
- Enter your username and password and tap ‘Log In’
- Once prompted, enter your Recovery Code
⚠️ Please Note: When you log in with your Recovery Code, it’ll automatically turn off two-factor authentication. If you’d like to keep using two-factor authentication, go back into your settings and turn it on again.
