What types of enforcements are able to be appealed?
If an account is locked by our Trust & Safety teams for content that violated our Community Guidelines or Terms of Service or because it was determined to constitute illegal content under applicable law, that decision can be appealed.
Appeals are also available for content that has been posted or distributed in certain parts of Snapchat (for example, Spotlight or Maps) where we have restricted its visibility for violation of our Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility.
Both the account lock decision and the content restriction decision can be appealed for a period of six months starting on the day you were informed of the decision.
Please Note: The person reporting content/an account and the person whose content/account was reported are notified separately of our enforcement actions and, if applicable, how they can submit an appeal. Snap does not notify the person reported about who reported them, nor are any other users notified about the report. To learn more about reporting safety concerns, please follow this link.
How can I submit an appeal if my account has been locked?
If your account lock is eligible for an appeal, you’ll be able to access the appeals process from the Snapchat app. Open the app, try to log in, and tap ‘Appeal Decision’ on the pop-up notification.
If you don’t see a pop-up notification with the option to ‘Appeal Decision,’ then your account lock is not eligible for an appeal.
Please note: The appeals process in the Snapchat app is the only appropriate way to appeal an account lock decision with Snapchat. Please do not attempt to appeal outside of the approved process; this will not expedite your appeal or affect your account lock status.
While your appeal is under review, the original enforcement generally remains in place.
How can I submit an appeal if my content’s visibility has been restricted?
When we receive a report regarding a Snap from the parts of our app that may reach a wider audience, we may review it to determine if the Snap has violated our Community Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility before removing the content from recommendation eligibility. If the visibility of your content has been restricted for violation of Snap’s Content Guidelines for Recommendation Eligibility, you can appeal the decision here.
Please note that while your appeal is under review, the original enforcement generally remains in place.
I am in the EU and I submitted an Article 16 (illegal content) notice. How can I appeal the outcome of that report?
If you would like to appeal our decision concerning a report of illegal content in the European Union that you submitted, please refer to the email you received notifying you of Snap’s decision on that report for instructions regarding how to appeal that decision. Please be aware that you may only appeal each illegal content report decision once.
Please also note that you must have shared an email address in your initial illegal content report in order to receive communication about the resolution of your report, including instructions on how to appeal.
While your appeal is under review, the original decision generally remains in place.
What happens after I’ve submitted my appeal?
Following your appeal, Snap may uphold, modify, or reverse the relevant decision. We aim to review your appeal and email you regarding the outcome within two weeks of receiving your appeal. Please be aware that this is only a rough estimate of the time it will take to address your appeal and the actual timeframe may vary depending on the circumstances. Please make sure you have access to the email address associated with your appeal.
If you are not happy with our appeal decision, you have the right to pursue a legal remedy in accordance with our Terms of Service. Additionally, EU users may submit a dispute to an out-of-court dispute settlement body that has been certified in accordance with Article 21.3 of the Digital Services Act. For further information, please visit our Support Site article concerning the out-of-court dispute settlement process.
