Topic Chats are large public group chats tied to a topic, creator, or place. They may look like other group chats, but they’re public and work a bit differently.
How do I find and join a Topic Chat?
To join a Topic chat, look for the ‘Topics’ shortcut on the top of the Chat feed.
Or, as an alternative, you can also find the option to ‘Join the Chat’ on Topic pages in Search, Spotlight, or Discover. When you see a Topic that interests you, tap ‘Join the Chat’ to jump in!
How do I interact with a Topic Chat?
- Send text, emojis, Snapchat and Bitmoji stickers (not custom stickers)
- To delete a message, press and hold on it, then tap ‘Delete’
- You can leave any time without sending a ‘left the group’ status message

Can my friends see that I joined a Topic Chat?
Your friends will be able to see that you joined a Topic Chat. There are a few places where we may show friend activity, including the Chat Feed, the Topic Page, and the friend filter in a Topic Chat.
Who can see what I say in a Topic Chat?
- Messages are public.
- Messages stay viewable in the chat, but you can delete your messages at any time.
- Your Snapchat display name will show up with the messages you send, but not your username. Your username will not be visible to other members of the Topic Chat
How do I leave a Topic Chat?
You can leave a Topic Chat any time by tapping on the three-dot menu, and then selecting ‘Leave Silently.’ Leaving a Topic Chat will not send a ‘left the group’ status message to the Topic Chat.
Unlike Group Chats, when you leave a Topic Chat, the messages you sent to it will not be cleared.
How do I report a Topic Chat?
You can report messages in a Topic Chat by pressing and holding on the message, then tapping “Report.”
