What is Perplexity?
Perplexity is a third-party AI chatbot you can chat with on Snapchat. You can ask questions, get summaries, get help to study, or generate a quiz. Perplexity can reply with text, images, links and citations, and multiple-choice quizzes.
How do I use Perplexity?
To start, here’s how you can find Perplexity:
- Open your Snapchat app to the Camera
- Swipe right to enter your Chat feed
- Find the ‘Perplexity AI’ Shortcut at the top of your Chat feed. Tap on it to open your conversation with Perplexity.
- You can also search for “Perplexity” and enter the conversation from its Profile
Want Perplexity to forget your recent conversation history? Here’s how you can reset it:
- Go to your Chat with Perplexity
- Tap the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the screen
- Tap ‘Reset Conversation’ to clear your conversation history
How do I report an answer?
If you encounter any responses that have missed the mark, you can report inaccurate or incorrect answers to Perplexity by emailing support@perplexity.ai.
Please include a screenshot of the answer you’re reporting, along with a description of the error and the expected result.
I don’t see Perplexity in my Chat feed. How do I get it?
This feature is currently testing and will be rolling out slowly, so it might not be available to everyone just yet.
How does Perplexity use my location data?
Perplexity only has access to your general location if you share it with Snapchat or chat about it with Perplexity. If you share your location with Snapchat, then it will be shared with Perplexity, even in Ghost Mode. Ghost Mode limits sharing your location with friends, not with the Snapchat app.
Here’s how you can stop sharing your location data with Snapchat, so Perplexity will not have access to it:
- Find the Snapchat app in your device settings
- Set the app’s location permission to “Never.” This will disable Snapchat’s access to your location. You can change this permission at any time.

Does Snapchat store my data?
Yes. By default, your Perplexity chats are retained for 14 days after viewing and your Snaps are retained for 24 hours after viewing. You can change this to After Viewing, 24 Hours After Viewing, 7 Days After Viewing, or 14 Days After Viewing in ‘Chat and Notification Settings.’
You can also delete your Perplexity data that is stored by Snapchat by long-pressing on your individual messages and selecting “Delete” or by navigating to Settings and following the steps below to delete the whole conversation:
- Tap ⚙️ to open Settings
- Tap ‘My Privacy & Data’
- Tap ‘Clear Data’
- Tap ‘Clear My Perplexity Data’

How does Snapchat use my data?
Snap may use the images, videos, audio, and text content that you have shared to your Perplexity conversation to develop, train, and improve Snap’s generative AI models. This may include a combination of automated and human review of this public content.

What parental controls are available for Perplexity?
If you’re a parent enrolled in Family Centre, you can restrict your teen’s access to Perplexity.
To restrict your teen’s access to Perplexity, find ‘Perplexity’ under Parental Settings, then use the toggle to disable access to it. This will block Perplexity from receiving messages from your teen, and block Perplexity from replying.
If your teen has recently interacted with Perplexity, you can find the chat on their Chat feed, and use the toggle to disable it that way as well.
How do I remove Perplexity from my Chat feed?
You can clear Perplexity from your Chat feed by following the steps below. Clearing removes the conversation thread from your Chat feed, but it does not delete data you’ve previously shared with Perplexity.
- Swipe right from the Camera screen to go to the Chat screen
- Press and hold on ‘Perplexity’
- Tap ‘Chat and Notification Settings’
- Tap ‘Clear from Chat Feed,’ then confirm
Need Perplexity back on your Chat feed? Tap the ‘Perplexity AI’ shortcut again or search for ‘Perplexity’ and start a new conversation.
