Why am I being asked for a code to log in?
If you’re being asked for a code to log in, it could be because you set up two-factor authentication (2FA). 2FA adds a step to the login process to help protect the security of your Snapchat account. When you have two-factor authentication turned on, and you log in to Snapchat, you’ll always be asked to enter a Login Code.
Or, it could be an extra security step that Snapchat takes, usually if you’re logging in from a new or unrecognised device. This helps confirm the account belongs to you. When triggered, Snapchat sends a verification code to one of the contact methods linked to your account: your phone number or your email. You cannot always choose the method of verification.
What do I do if I lost my phone and can’t access any verification methods?
If you lost your phone (or switched devices) and you’re locked out because you can’t get a 2FA Login Code or security code, and you also can’t access your email address, Snapchat Support may be able to help you log in if you’re able to prove you own the account. This includes cases like:
- You don’t have your device, so you can’t get a 2FA code or security code
- You can't access the email or phone number on your account
- You don't have a recovery code
If these apply to you and you’re able to prove you own the account, contact Snapchat Support here.
Why am I getting a “Too many requests” error after trying to get an SMS verification code?
This error is usually a temporary block caused by requesting too many SMS codes or making multiple login attempts in a short window. To fix this, try waiting a few minutes and ensure your network connection is stable before attempting to log in again. If you still can't get a code, Snapchat Support may be able to help you log in to your account if you’re able to prove you own the account. Contact Snapchat Support here.
