An AI Sponsored Snap is a new type of ad in your Chat feed that lets you chat directly with an advertiser's AI chatbot. Tapping an AI Sponsored Snap opens a 1:1 conversation instead of a full-screen ad. AI Sponsored Snaps are independent of My AI — the chatbot you're talking to is provided and managed by the advertiser, not by Snap.
How do I recognise an AI Sponsored Snap in my Chat feed
AI Sponsored Snaps appear in your Chat feed as a Chat cell from the advertiser's Public Profile. They're marked with an ‘Ad’ badge and a blue messaging icon (similar to an unread Chat from a friend). Standard Sponsored Snaps use a red or purple icon instead.
What happens when I tap on an AI Sponsored Snap?
Tapping the Chat cell or its call-to-action button opens a 1:1 conversation with the advertiser's AI chatbot. When you open the conversation for the first time, you'll see:
- A welcome card with suggested prompts you can tap to send
- A legal disclosure with links to the advertiser's Terms and Privacy Policy
- An attachment card linking to the advertiser's website or app, if available
You can tap a suggested prompt or type your own message.
What can I send in an AI Sponsored Snap conversation?
You can send text messages and images. Other formats, like videos, aren't supported and will return an error message.
Who is replying to me?
The replies in an AI Sponsored Snap come from the advertiser's AI chatbot. You aren't chatting with a person, and you aren't chatting with Snapchat's My AI. The advertiser is responsible for the chatbot's behaviour and responses.
Will the conversation stay in my Chat feed?
If you don't send a message, the AI Sponsored Snap will disappear from your Chat feed after you leave the Chat tab.
If you do send a message, the conversation will continue to appear in your Chat feed as a regular chat and the conversation will move down in your Chat feed over time if you don't come back to it.
What does Snap do with my conversation?
Snap stores your conversation with an AI chatbot using the same retention rules that apply to your other Chats. To learn more, please refer to Personalisation on Snapchat.
What does the advertiser do with my conversation?
Your messages are also sent to the advertiser's AI service so the chatbot can respond. The advertiser handles that data under their own privacy policy, which is linked in the legal disclosure when you first open the conversation. If you have questions about how a specific advertiser stores or uses your data, contact the advertiser directly using the information in their privacy policy.
How do I clear or remove an AI Sponsored Snap from my Chat feed?
If the AI Sponsored Snap is an ad, press and hold on the AI Sponsored Snap in your Chat feed. Tap ‘Clear from Chat Feed’.
To clear or remove a chat conversation that you have with Experian, tap the 'x' button at the right side of the chat cell.
Please Note: If you follow Experian's Public Profile, press and hold on your chat with Experian. Tap 'Chat and Notification Settings', then 'Clear from Chat Feed'.
How do I report an AI Sponsored Snap?
To report the ad itself:
- Press and hold on the Chat feed cell with the AI Sponsored Snap
- Tap ‘Report Ad’
- Tell us why you’re reporting the ad
To report a specific message from the chatbot:
- Long-press the chatbot's message in the conversation
- Tap 'Report'
- Tell us why you're reporting the message
Can I block the advertiser?
Yes, you can block the advertiser’s Public Profile the same way you would block any other Public Profile.
Please note that blocking a Public Profile may not stop their Sponsored Snaps from appearing in your Chat feed; this matches how blocking works for other Sponsored Snaps today.
Can I opt out of AI Sponsored Snaps?
AI Sponsored Snaps are part of Snapchat's ads programme. Subscribing to the Snapchat+ Platinum Monthly Plan removes Sponsored Snaps, Story and Lens ads. Learn how to subscribe or switch to that plan here.
