What restrictions apply to using Snapchat in Türkiye?
Due to regulatory requirements in Türkiye, Snapchat is updating how the app works for some Snapchatters. Starting November 1, 2026:
- If you are under 15 years old, you will not be able to create a Snapchat account in Türkiye.
- If you are under 18 years old, you may see a version of Snapchat with fewer tabs. You can still chat, send Snaps, view friend Stories, use the Camera, and save to Memories.
Though the impact of these changes can feel disappointing, the changes are the result of an evolving legal and regulatory landscape that affect your experience.
Why can’t I create a new Snapchat account?
If you are under 15 and located in Türkiye, you will not be able to create a new Snapchat account right now. This is based on the birthday you enter during signup and other age signals Snapchat uses.
When you turn 15, you can try creating a Snapchat account again. Age requirements can vary by region. See What’s the minimum age to use Snapchat?
If I’m 15 and already have a Snapchat account will I lose it?
If you already have an account and are under 18 in Türkiye, you’ll see a restricted app experience described below.
Which Snapchat features are restricted?
If you are under 18 in Türkiye, you’ll notice that Discover may not be available.
Can I still use Snapchat normally?
Yes. The changes only affect certain features. You can still:
- Send and receive Snaps
- Chat with friends
- View friend Stories
- Use the Camera with Lenses and filters
- Save Snaps to Memories
How does Snapchat know my age?
Snapchat uses the birthday on your account and other age signals to determine your age.
When I turn 18, will I get access to all Snapchat features?
If you are under 18 in Türkiye and currently seeing fewer tabs, your experience will update when you turn 18. You do not need to take any action.
If I move out of Türkiye, how do I correct my location?
Snapchat picks your location based on your recent activity, not where your account was created. If you've moved out of Türkiye or are just visiting:
- Restart the Snapchat app.
- Try logging in.
- If you're eligible to use Snapchat where you live now, the restrictions will be lifted automatically.
- If the restrictions don't go away, we are not able to detect a location change. Make sure you are using a device you've previously used with Snapchat, and avoid using a VPN, which can skew our location determination.
Please Note: These steps may not be successful for all users.
