How do I turn a Topic Chat message into a Spotlight Snap?
You can share some Topic Chat messages to Spotlight as a Snap. The Snap includes a sticker with the sender’s display name, the Topic Chat name, the message text, and a ‘Join the Chat’ button.
To share a Topic Chat message to Spotlight, follow these steps…
- Open a Topic Chat
- Press and hold a text or poll message, then tap ‘Snap’
- Capture a photo or video in the Snap Reply camera. You can also double-tap a message to open the camera with the Chat overlaid
- After you capture your Snap, tap ‘Spotlight’ on the left side of the preview screen to open the Spotlight post tray
- Review the topic tag (the Topic Chat name may already be filled in), then finish posting through the usual Spotlight steps
You can also tap ‘Send To’ on the right to share to Spotlight, My Story, Custom Story, or Friends. You can’t send the Snap back into the Topic Chat you started from.
What happens if the original Topic Chat message is deleted or changes?
The sticker on your Snap is a snapshot from when you captured it. If the original message is later deleted, edited, or moderated, your posted Snap does not change.
How do I join a Topic Chat from a Spotlight post?
On some Spotlight posts shared from Topic Chats, you may see the Topic Chat name highlighted in the post context. Tap it to open the chat. If you are already a member, you go straight to the chat. If not, you’ll see the usual Topic Chat welcome and join steps.
Please Note: ‘Snap’ from a Topic Chat is not available for every message type. It is not offered on system messages or other unsupported messages.
