Add Friends from Your Contacts đ
You can add friends from the contacts in your phone or other device. If they donât have a Snapchat account, you can invite them to create one đ»
To add friends from your deviceâs contact listâŠ
- Tap the Profile icon at the top to go to your Profile
- Tap âAdd Friendsâ
- Tap âAll Contactsâ
- Tap â+ Addâ to add them as a friend!
- Contact names, phone numbers, and email addresses
- Time last updated (e.g., 2 days ago)
- If the contact has a photo đŒ
- Please Note: We donât upload the photo itselfÂ
- If the contact has a saved date (e.g., a birthday or anniversary)Â đ
- Please Note: We donât upload the date itself
- If the contact is on your favorites list (Android only)Â âïž
- If the contact has a social media profile link
- Please Note: We donât upload the social media link itself
You can see which data has been uploaded about your contacts in Settings âïž Just tap 'Contacts' under 'Additional Services,' then 'See Contacts Shared With Snapchat' to check it out!
Please Note: You can also remove your shared contacts from Snapchat by tapping 'Remove Synced Contacts From Snapchat,' or by going to 'Privacy Controls' in Settings, and tapping 'Clear Data' and then 'Clear Contact Data.' Importantly, disabling or adjusting your device-level permission to limit sharing contacts data with Snapchat may not remove previously shared contacts from Snapchat, which can always be done via in-app settings. We may continue to use your stored contacts to improve your app experience unless you tell us not to by deleting them from Snapchat.
Add Friends from Search đ
You can search by a friendâs name or username to add them.
To add friends using SearchâŠ
- Tap đ at the top of the screen
- Type in a friendâs name or usernameÂ
- Tap â+ Addâ to add them as a friend!
Add Friends Using Quick Add âĄïž
Quick Add may appear in your Chat screen, the Add Friends screen, or when you use Search. Tap 'Add' to add a new friend, or tap âïžto hide that Snapchatter đ đŒ
Friend recommendations in Quick Add are based on who you're already friends with, who you subscribe to, and other factors đŻ
Pro Tip đĄ Even if you donât upload your contacts to Snapchat, or you delete your previously uploaded contacts, you may still see friends in Quick Add for other reasons, such as if youâre in other Snapchattersâ contacts.

Add Friends by Mention đŹ
If you view a Story that has a Snapchatter Mentioned in it, you can add that Snapchatter!
To add a friend from a MentionâŠ
- View the Story that the Snapchatter is Mentioned in
- Swipe up on the featured Snap
- Tap â+Addâ đ

Add Friends by Snapcode đČ
A Snapcode is an image with a unique code in it that you can scan with Snapchat. You can scan Snapcodes to add friends, unlock Lenses, discover new content, and more.
Snapcodes usually look like a yellow square with many black dots.
To add a friend by scanning their SnapcodeâŠ
- Have your friend open Snapchat and tap the Profile icon
- Open Snapchat on your device and point the camera at the Snapcode
- Press and hold on the Snapcode to scan it đ
- Tap 'Add Friend'
Add Friends by Subscribing to Public Profiles
If you Subscribe to a Public Profile, youâll be adding that Public Profile owner as a friend, and they can add you back as a friend.
Ignore Friend Requests đ€«
You can ignore Snapchatters if you donât want to add them and donât want any more friend requests from them đ
To ignore a SnapchatterâŠ
- Tap the Profile icon to go to your Profile
- Tap 'Add Friends'
- Tap the âïž next to the Snapchatter in the 'Added Me' section
- Tap 'Ignore'Â
